  • Torrential rain in thunderstorm

    The much needed rain fell just after midnight with thunderstorms lasting almost an hour. The total rainfall was 30.1mm, which is half the monthly average for July. This followed another hot day with a maximum of 27.1C and 8.4 hours of strong sunshine.

  • Hottest day since 2006

    Yesterday the thermometer peaked at 33.1C. This was the hottest July day since 19th July 2006 when the record of 36.9C was set. Due to varying cloud cover the strong sunshine was reduced at 4.56 hours. The minimum overnight was 14.3C allowing some of the heat to dissipate.

  • Heatwave continues

    Yesterday the thermometer peaked at 28.6C, the hottest day since August 2013 and did not fall below 17.4C overnight. We enjoyed 15.74 hours of strong sunlight. At 0800 this morning the temperature had soared to 24.6C. The rainfall for the month was 22.2mm, the fifth driest since my records began in 1984. Over the month we lost 107mm to evaporation.

  • Summer at last!

    Yesterday brought us the hottest day of the year with a maximum of 24.9C, the highest UV reading, not surprisingly it was in the very high category, and the highest indirect sunshine total of 13.8 hours. Strong sunshine totalled 7.77 hours.
    This morning at 0800 it was the warmest start to the day since the end of July at 18.3C and rising steadily.

  • Little rain yesterday – driest June since 2000

    The light rain yesterday amounted to 0.5mm bringing the total for June to 22.2mm (40%). The overcast skies until late afternoon tempered the maximum temperature to 20.2C, although it means that the last six days have all been above the average for this month.
