Yesterday the forecast thunderstorms passed to the west and east of this area as has often been the case in the past. The rainfall total for yesterday morning was 2.0mm with an additional 4.9mm starting just after 0500 this morning bringing the total for the last twenty-four hours to 6.9mm, none of it heavy.
Due to the continuous low cloud yesterday the UV level, at its highest was at 2.5, more typical of a winter day. The wind, gusting to a peak of 25mph and from a north-easterly direction, meant that the temperature was kept down to a maximum of 18.7C. The overnight heavy cloud and later rainfall, meant a mild night with a minimum of 14.8C, just 4C below the day toe peak.

Very warm and sunny day but no thunderstorms yet
Yesterday brought a maximum of 22.9C, well above the mean for August and six hours of strong sunshine. The forecast early morning arrival of heavy rain and thunderstorms has yet to materialise at 0830 today.

Heaviest rainfall for almost three weeks
The steady and heavy rainfall lasting over four hours yesterday morning brought 8.1mm of rainfall. Due to the wet morning and much cloud cover for the rest of the day there was little (0.6 hours) strong sunshine.

Hottest day for a month
Yesterday the temperature rose to a maximum of 25.6C, the hottest day since 3rd July. The number of hours of strong sunshine was almost 10 hours, the highest since 9th July. The light winds over the last two days, peaking at 11mph and 13mph, have meant that it has felt like summer.

Sunniest day this month
Yesterday brought 8.3 hours of strong sunshine, the sunniest this month. As a result the maximum temperature was above average at 22.9C, combined with the very light winds, maximum gust of 11mph, it was a very pleasant day.
