Windrush Weather

High pressure ebbing away

Thursday 6th November
We have now had three similar mild days and nights, thanks to the stream of moist, warm air from the south, Wednesday was no exception, which saw the thermometer rise to a maximum of 15.4C at 11.51 being 5.1C above average. There were a few spots of rain just after 09.30, but not measurable, otherwise a dry day and night. The thermometer dropped away to reach a minimum of 12.2C at 05.40, before rising again with a temperature of 13.1C at 08.00. The high was 5.1C above average whilst the minimum was a significant 8.1C above my long-term average.

Thursday arrived dull and gloomy under the cover of thick cloud. A minor weather front is forecast to pass over our area around midday, precipitation, if any, will be light.

The recent high pressure has lost its battle as pressure continues to drop allowing the effect of low pressure systems in the eastern Atlantic to begin to have more influence on our weather, the barometric pressure has now dropped to 1004.4mb at 08.00. There is likely to be some rainfall during Friday as another weather front crosses the UK, but at the moment bonfire night looks to be a dry and fine evening.

The recent very mild days and nights has meant the ground has maintained a relatively high temperature for the beginning of November with a reading of 11.4C at 08.00, that is at a depth of 5cm.
